PiEEG is an initiative that makes brain-computer interface (BCI) technology accessible to researchers, students, and makers worldwide. PiEEG provides access to neurobiology through research-grade biosignal hardware compatible with a wide range of electrodes for EEG, EMG, ECG, and EOG — allowing the study and application of neural and biosignal data in real-world conditions.

What Is PiEEG?

PiEEG is a family of EEG shields and boards that turn a Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, Arduino, or standalone USB host into a multi-channel brain-computer interface. The companion PiEEG Server software acquires, streams, records, and exposes real-time EEG data over WebSocket, Lab Streaming Layer (LSL), OSC, and webhooks — with a built-in browser dashboard out of the box.

The project spans hardware (from 8 to 32 channels), MIT-licensed software and SDKs, and a global open-source community.

For years, the PiEEG team has been dedicated to breaking down the barriers of neuroscience. We believe that measuring the human body's signals — whether from the brain (EEG), muscles (EMG), or eyes (EOG) — should not be restricted to high-cost equipment.

Our mission is to make PiEEG the universal bridge between biology and technology for research purposes. Designed for simplicity and compatible with a vast range of electrodes, PiEEG hardware lets you go from unboxing to data-tracking in minutes.

Our Story

PiEEG is a project born from a shared interest in hardware engineering, signal processing, and neuroscience. The team consists of researchers and engineers who believe that the tools for exploring biosignals should be accessible to everyone.

The project was launched on Crowd Supply, where it raised five times its initial funding goal. Over the years, the team has contributed to the field by publishing findings on Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) and developing open-source software tools. The goal is not just to build devices, but to provide a transparent platform where others can experiment with neural interfaces.

By combining experience in hardware design with machine learning, the team works to ensure PiEEG remains a reliable, entry-level tool for non-medical research and exploration.
